VACT is presenting two free staged readings of new works by emerging playwrights Chris Lam and Carolyn Nakagawa at the Moberly Arts & Cultural Centre, October 25 & 27.

• Friday, October 25 @ 7:30 pm – Chris Lam playwright – Shanghai Black Beer

Chris Lam presents Shanghai Black Beer, a sensitive and absurdist play that follows four friends in an evening of shared secrets and disturbing lies. This reading will feature Evelyn Chew playing Edith, Patrick Mercado as Julio, Andrea Yu as Sarah and Tim Zhang playing Derek, with Anthony F. Ingram directing. Chris Gatchalian provides dramaturgy.

• Sunday, October 27 @ 2:00 pm – Carolyn Nakagawa playwright – Trig Variations

Carolyn Nagakawa presents Trig Variations, a showcase of seven separate stories exploring different relationships and interactions between three twenty-something-year-olds. Howie Lai, Quynh Mi and Rosie Simon take on various roles in this inventive and witty piece, with Raugi Yu directing and dramaturgy from Loretta Seto.

After each reading, there will be a Q & A with the audience and the creative participants in the MSG Theatre Lab.

Creative Remix 4 introduces Melanie Schambach

The Moberly Arts & Cultural Centre is very pleased to announce the appointment of Melanie Schambach as the new Day Camp manager for Creative Remix 4.  Melanie also comes to us as one of the Park Board's newest Artists in Residencies.  She will be working out of the Moberly caretaker's suite at the Moberly Arts & Cultural Centre (7646 Prince Albert St) starting July 1, 2013.  Melanie is very excited to work with our day camps as a great way to get to know the community.  Melanie has extensive experience working with children and youth and is a proponent of participatory art making. 

Please join us in welcoming Melanie.  Melanie will be working on setting up our Creative Remix 4 summer day camps which start July 2nd.  The camps will still offer guest artists each week as well as out trips, games, working with Madame Beespeaker and a whole lot of creative fun!

Joining Melanie will be Camp Leaders: Jasleen Minhas and Malcolm Duke.  Both Jasleen and Malcolm have years of working with children in a day camp situation.  These two are full of fun and are a welcome addition to the summer camp experience at Moberly.

Creative Remix 4: Summer Arts Camps

The South Asian Family Association in partnership with the Moberly Arts and Cultural Centre present Creative Remix summer camps for kids aged 6 to 11 years. 

Join us for dance, theatre, painting, drawing, music, sculpture, out trips, games, guest Artists and More!  Nestled in beautiful Moberly Park in south east Vancouver this camp is in its fourth year. By popular demand this year we have added a fifth week. 

Camps begin July 2. Cost is  $75 per week for weeks 2 through 5. $60 for week 1 only (4 day camp)

Adapted Musical Theatre: Our Man in Kitsilano

Access Services/Vancouver Park Board, MTC Studio Inc. and The Moberly Arts & Cultural Centre is pleased to team up to develop and present a musical look at a piece of Vancouver's recent history.

Our Man in Kitsilano takes a comedic look at the development of Vancovuer's bike lane program.  Competing self itnerest groups take us on a ride we won't forget in this musical farce.  Along the way, we get a plot twist that almost throws us over the handlebars.  Hold onto your helmets for the surprise ending!

Something that makes this production special is that the cast is made up of actors with special needs.
